Weekly Funding Opportunities Listing – November 15, 2011

Below are funding opportunities of interest that I have learned about/received RFP notifications about in the past week that I wanted to share.

Education

Deadline: December 31, 2011

In order to promote a love of reading, the goal of the Laura Bush Foundation (LBF) is to provide books and reading materials to the school libraries and students that most need them.  Consequently, funds are available only for library books and magazine/serial copies and subscriptions. The Laura Bush Foundation is unable to honor requests for staffing, shelving, furniture, equipment, software, videos, classroom book sets or any kind of book guides, tests or exams.  The Foundation makes grants of up to $6,000 to update, extend, and diversify the book collections of the libraries that receive them.

Nonprofit

Deadline: March 22, 2012

The Purpose Prize®, now in its sixth year, is the nation's only large-scale investment in people over 60 who are combining their passion and experience for social good. The Prize awards up to $100,000 each to five people in encore careers creating new ways to solve tough social problems.

Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:
·          Will the person be a compelling role model whose own story will serve to inspire others, not only to think differently about the second half of life, but also to take on new leadership roles and perform significant service in an encore career?
·          Is the person an outstanding social innovator, working creatively and in a transformative capacity to spearhead significant change?
·          Has the person initiated important innovations (in a new or ongoing organization) within the past 15 years?
·          Does the person plan to continue to innovate and lead in the years to come?
·          How important is the issue the person is addressing? How much of an impact has the person's work had on that issue? Is his or her work already effecting, or does it have the future potential to effect, systemic change?
·          What does she/he plan to do in the next five years? Would The Prize be a good investment in the future work of this individual?
·          Is the person a highly ethical individual?

Women

Deadline: December 21, 2011

The J. Jill Compassion Fund supports:
  • Job training, education and transitional and/or affordable housing for women in need;
  • Programs that break down barriers for women in need to achieve and sustain self-sufficiency
  • General operating expenses for organizations that fall within J. Jill’s guidelines.

The J. Jill Compassion Fund will provide general operating support to organizations whose mission is to provide the above services.  Program support is limited to the expansion or enhancement of existing programs, rather than to fund new programs.

Youth

The Taco Bell Foundation for Teens supports organizations that provide teens with college, career and community experiences that inspire them to stay in school and graduate.

  • Focused on college, career and/or community

There are three types of applications:
